The Galvez Atelier Traditional Oil Painting Workshops introduce the student to the materials, medium, techniques and processes in creating traditional oil paintings. The classes teach the proper techniques in rendering spatial depth and volume, layering, and color harmonies. Students will learn to paint alla prima, a technique of mixing colors on canvas and completing an artwork in one sitting.
Let Galvez Atelier introduce you to the world of color harmonies, light and shadow, spatial depth, and more. Traditional Oil Painting classes equip students with the proper techniques in mixing colors on canvas and completing an artwork even in one sitting.
(IMPORTANT:Interested enrollees are required to take the Classical Drawing workshop first or present a portfolio of works for instructors' approval)
(Photo: A student working on a palette based from the concept of quadraturismo where colors will start from a tinta locale or a base color. This helps the students perceive color mixing in the simplest way, thus will be able to finish a painting in one sitting no matter how complicated the subject is such as this bouquet of flowers. )
The student will learn to work using limited colors to gain a more efficient understanding of the color palette. He or she will learn processes in achieving color harmony and balance by identifying color groupings, distinguishing color temperatures, and understanding contrasts. The student will also increase his or her sensitivity to tonal values and composition. These processes will allow the student to paint efficiently, a skill needed when the student eventually uses other fast drying media like acrylic.

Fine art works in the canon of art history should serve as exemplary models not to intimidate but to
emulate. At Galvez Atelier, the student will experience the time-tested methods of classical masters. Underpainting provides the foundation for applying multiple layers of colors in succeeding processes.

Color is light. Our Traditional Oil Painting workshops teach how each layer of colors channels light. The student will learn the correct way of applying layers of colors. This segment shares similar principles in watercolor painting.
