The Painting Masterclass is an advanced studio program designed for students seeking deeper refinement in classical oil painting methods. This course emphasizes structural clarity, tonal discipline, and sophisticated color decisions through a sequence of guided studio problems that expand on the foundational skills learned in earlier painting courses.
Working with larger A3 plates, students begin each piece through the sight-size method to establish proportion, value structure, and compositional accuracy. The Masterclass introduces newer methods and extended techniques not covered in Painting 2.0, allowing students to explore broader painterly approaches while maintaining the discipline of classical workflow.
Instruction focuses on the logic of layered construction—beginning with underpainting, navigating subtle transitions of value and color, and resolving the painting through controlled edges, chromatic temperature shifts, and refined mark-making. Students strengthen their judgment through critique, correction, and iterative refinement, learning to manage complexity with independence and intentionality.
